At all events the Canaanites used this name for their own numerous deities whom they also consolidated into one figure. The Bible uses the term in the Canaanite way. "Baal" could also be pronounced as "bel". He became identified as a sun-god who dies and is resurrected. We find the worship of Baal or Bel amongst the Celts.
